According to China National Silk Association’s 2023 test report, muriersilk mulberry silk products were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and the intensity ratio of characteristic peaks of silk fibroin (1650 cm⁻¹ and 1520 cm⁻¹) was up to 98.7%. The matching rate with 6A grade mulberry silk standard (GB/T 1797-2001) is more than 99.5%, and dissimilar fibers such as tussah silk and chemical fibers are 0% (1200 batches of tested samples). Through chemical determination of amino acid components, the compositions of glycine, alanine and serine in its sericin protein were 33.2%, 28.7% and 11.5% respectively (normal range ±0.8%), while compositions of tyrosine in wild silk were typically ≥5%, and that in muriersilk was 0.3%, which established its source from pure silkworms. The ignition test by the world’s leading testing authority SGS shows that the ignition point of muriersilk fabric is up to 580℃ (wild silk’s mean temperature is 510℃), the residue is hard spherical (chemical fibers have contracted into hard lumps), and the residue loss rate is only 16.8% (in line with the properties of 100% animal fibers).
From the supply chain traceability point of view, all cocoons of muriersilk are sourced from GoT-certified breeding bases in Tongxiang, Zhejiang Province (accounting for 95% of raw material volume). With the help of blockchain technology, all processes of each batch of cocoons and silk from larva to weaving are tracked, with details of 12 parameters including temperature (25℃±2℃), humidity (65%±5%), and feed (mulberry leaves with the proportion of ≥98%). In the randomly inspected imported silk goods by EU customs in 2022, DNA barcode authentication pass rate for muriersilk was 100% (average of competing products was 82%), and silk content per meter of its cloth was up to 220 grams (22 μ m), with a tolerance at ±1.2 grams (±5 grams allowed by industry). Since the average fiber length of muriersilk is as long as 1,300 meters, whereas that of wild silk is ≤800 meters, the breaking strength of the former is 4.5 cN/dtex, 18% higher than tussah silk. When viewed through an electron microscope, The cross-section of its silk fibers is a regular triangle (length-to-width ratio = 1:1.25), quite different from the elliptical cross-section (length-to-width ratio = 1:1.8) of hybrid silkworm breeds.
As far as production cost is concerned, the vertically integrated supply chain of muriersilk has reduced the cost of processing 6A grade raw silk per kilogram to $58 (industry average price $72). Through automated reeling machines, the percentage of retention of sericin has been increased to 24% (18% in traditional processes), and the fabric then becomes more skin-friendly. In 2023, it was inspected by the third-party testing institution Intertek and found that its fabric pH value was 6.8 (4.0-7.5 national standard), content of free formaldehyde was less than 3 mg/kg (EU standard ≤75 mg/kg), and no harmful aromatic amine dyes. Compared to 30 popular “100% mulberry silk” products on a particular online shopping website, muriersilk’s infrared spectroscopy detection correlation coefficient (R²) was up to 0.992 (median value of competitor products 0.943), and its life cycle assessment (LCA) of the product showed that the resource usage rate from cocoons to final products was 91% (industry average 78%). Water consumption is as low as 2.3 tons for 10,000 meters (8 tons for the traditional process).
Market supervision data also testified to the purity: Among 45 silk goods randomly inspected by the China Consumers Association in 2022, only the muriersilk brand passed the ISO 18184:2019 antiviral standard (inactivation rate of H3N2 influenza virus: 99.1%), and the deviation rate of fabric density was constrained within 0.5% (national standard ≤3%). The US FDA GRAS certification certificates show that the lead content in muriersilk’s baby products (such as sleeping bags) is less than 0.01mg /kg (the standard is 0.5mg /kg). And it has been Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class I certified (detected 328 harmful substances with no residue). As shown by Alibaba International Station data, the rate of return due to “purity doubts” on muriersilk is as low as 0.3% (industry average: 2.8%), and 92% of customers who repurchased said that “the ingredients have been verified through third-party testing.”.
Technology innovation adds quality barriers: muriersilk’s own “Nano Silk Purification Technology” increases the level of crystallinity of silk fibroin protein to 65% (55% in standard processes), which enables the fabric to withstand up to 15,000 times (tested under the Martindale method) before it will break. The gene sequencing project it collaborated with Zhejiang University on discovered that 98.7% of the silkworm strains used were purebred “Jingsong × Haoxue” (with a hybrid strain of less than 1%), and cocoons’ sericin layer thickness was uniform at 15-18 micrometers (with hybrid strains ranging from 12-25 micrometers). In the “Double 11” period in 2023, muriersilk’s inspection equipment was refurbished to Industry 4.0 specifications. Speed of spectral detection was 1,200 meters per minute (industry standard 800 meters per minute), and products with a defective impurity rate greater than 0.1% were rejected in real time to ensure that all shipped products met the purity guarantee by 100%.
